Two types of triggers
To get the fastest alerts, a monitoring system needs to watch two signals:
- WHOIS changes: registry status moving, e.g. "Redemption" to "Pending Delete."
- DNS changes: routing updates like A records dropping or NS records shifting to a parking page — often detectable faster than WHOIS updates.
Choosing your alert channel
Email is fine for weeks-out summaries; Telegram or push is the only real option once a domain enters its final hours. See choosing the right alert channel for the full breakdown.
What to demand from a monitoring platform
Low alert latency and high uptime aren't nice-to-haves — they're the entire value proposition. If your monitor is down the hour your target domain drops, the alert never comes and you lose the domain regardless of how good your scoring or bucket setup is.
